About this test
The 3 minute typing test shifts the focus from raw speed to endurance and consistency. Over three minutes, the typists who come out ahead aren't necessarily the fastest starters — they're the ones who keep a calm, even pace without letting errors pile up or attention drift. This is the length that best mirrors real work like writing emails, notes, or reports, where sustained comfort matters more than a short sprint. Pay attention to your consistency score and the WPM-over-time chart afterward: a flat line means you've found a pace you can trust, while a jagged one points to fatigue or lapses in focus you can train away with regular practice.

Frequently asked questions
How is WPM calculated?
One word is defined as five characters. Gross WPM = characters typed ÷ 5 ÷ minutes; Net WPM uses only correctly typed characters. See our methodology page for details.
Is 180 seconds long enough for an accurate score?
Yes. A minute or more averages out lucky and unlucky moments and gives a stable, comparable result.
Does accuracy affect my WPM?
Your headline WPM is the Net WPM, which counts only correctly typed characters, so mistakes lower it. Raw WPM ignores accuracy.
Is my typing sent anywhere?
No. Your keystrokes and results are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.
