About this test

The 15 second typing test is a fast warm-up, not a full measurement. Fifteen seconds is just long enough to shake out your fingers and get a rough feel for your speed, but too short to be statistically reliable — a single lucky burst or one stumble can swing the number a lot. Use it before a longer test, to compare two keyboards quickly, or to squeeze in practice between tasks. Because the window is so small, focus on clean, even keystrokes rather than racing; a smooth 15 seconds is a better predictor of your real speed than a frantic one. When you want a trustworthy score, move up to the 30 second or 1 minute test.

How to use it

  1. Click the typing area (or just start typing) to focus it.
  2. The timer starts the moment you press your first key.
  3. Type the text exactly as shown; correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red.
  4. Use Backspace to fix mistakes, or keep going — your choice.
  5. When the test ends, review your WPM, accuracy, and consistency.

Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?

One word is defined as five characters. Gross WPM = characters typed ÷ 5 ÷ minutes; Net WPM uses only correctly typed characters. See our methodology page for details.

Is 15 seconds long enough for an accurate score?

It's great for a warm-up, but shorter tests are less reliable. For a stable benchmark, use the 1 minute test or longer.

Does accuracy affect my WPM?

Your headline WPM is the Net WPM, which counts only correctly typed characters, so mistakes lower it. Raw WPM ignores accuracy.

Is my typing sent anywhere?

No. Your keystrokes and results are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.
